Even if people were scared for their own safety, there’s no reason they couldn’t have texted 911. I was on a train once and someone (who was clearly not in their right mind) pulled a knife. I froze and then as the person moved to focus on someone else, I moved to another car and pressed the alert button. I later remembered I had mace with me but hadn’t even considered pulling it.

It’s true, sometimes our mind blanks when terrifying things happen, but hopefully learning about stories like this and imagining what we’d do might make it just a little easier to do it if needed.
